Reversing Type 2 Diabetes: Real Stories of Success
Can You Reverse Type 2 Diabetes After 26 Years of Insulin Dependence?
Conventional wisdom says it’s impossible. But Barb Mynott’s story shows us that it can be done.
Barb Mynott’s Story
Greetings from India!
My journey is similar to Bernard’s. I was taking 170 units of Lantus daily, a handful of metformin, and medications for coronary artery disease and other illnesses. After 26 years of diabetes, my body had numerous health issues. I was spending nearly $1,200 a month on medications.
I started the program confused, thinking I had to eat three meals a day. But after a month of learning and exploring the site’s resources, I realized the key was to smartly cut carbs. I joined up and reduced my eating window, eventually going down to one meal a day with frequent three-day fasts.
The results have been miraculous. After 26 years of insulin dependence, my diabetes is gone. The neuropathy in my feet has improved significantly. My Crohn’s disease, which has plagued me for 45 years, is in complete remission. Cardiac issues are resolving, my blood pressure is back to normal, and esophageal problems have greatly improved.
I began this journey to prepare for three surgeries. I wanted to be in the best possible condition. Not only have my autoimmune and inflammatory issues improved, but I’ve also lost 14 pounds.
Thank you to the Diet Doctor team and Dr. Jason Fung. My life has totally changed. I’d love to see more content on the psychology of this eating method. The mental challenges might be what defeat many people. The thought of not eating or giving up certain foods is harder to deal with than the eating plan itself.

As a retired registered nurse, I’ve seen how inflammatory and autoimmune diseases can devastate lives. I’m grateful for all the research and information shared here.
Ian’s Story
When Ian went in for his routine medical exam, he received a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. He needed to start treatment immediately.
Here’s what happened when he searched for science, found the Diet Doctor website, and chose not to follow his dietitian’s low-fat advice:
Dear Diet Doctor Team,
I’m a 52-year-old male who never paid much attention to my health but had no serious health issues. During a routine medical exam for my job, I assumed I’d pass easily. However, my blood test showed high blood glucose levels. Further tests confirmed I was a type 2 diabetic. The doctor prescribed Metformin and referred me to a dietitian. The diet plan I received included regular meals with bread, uncooked vegetables, limited fats, and lean meat.
After three days of struggling with hunger and nausea from the medication, I started looking for alternatives. That’s when I found the Diet Doctor website. Within the first week of my diagnosis, I stopped the medication and diet and switched to low-carb eating.
That was 8 weeks ago. During this time, my wife and I took a two-week motorcycle trip through Bulgaria and Romania. I indulged in cold beer and new foods, straying from the LCHF diet. Considering this, my progress over 6-7 weeks is impressive.
At my follow-up exam, the results showed significant improvement. I asked the doctor if I was still diabetic. He couldn’t find evidence to support this. I’ve decided to call myself an “Ex-Diabetic” from now on.
Today, I feel fantastic. I’ll continue with the LCHF diet to reach my natural weight. I have no target weight and don’t care about BMI. I’ll enjoy local beers and foods when traveling and look forward to visiting more places.
Initially, people expressed sympathy when I told them I was diabetic. But this diagnosis has been the best thing to happen to me in years. Without the resources from Diet Doctor and similar groups, my outcome would have been different. I would have continued gaining weight and worsening my health.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible work.
P.S. I want to share a drink recipe I recently created. It tastes better than the original.
